Well I liked her and even her old songs (from the country days), and friends would smile. A lot of guys would have considered that liking Olivia was a bit "girlie" for a guy. But they probably thought she was beautiful.
If you liked rock it was ok, but adult contemporary (if that term existed back then) was for the people that weren't hip.
I never hid that I liked her. She also filled stadiums so I guess she was popular enough.
Not embarassed but conscious that it wasn't always considered terribly masculine.
Now it's even worse with her association with the gay community, as if her music was mostly attracting gays...Except that she gets a certain respect from being a veteran and classy ex-superstar. She has some sort of legend's status.
